How to Sell Social Media Templates on Etsy and Gumroad

Instagram post templates, Pinterest pin designs, LinkedIn carousels. Social media templates are in constant demand from business owners who can't design.

Who buys social media templates

Small business owners, coaches, real estate agents, fitness trainers, restaurants, salons. Anyone who needs to post on social media but doesn't have a designer on staff. They want to look professional without spending hours in Canva figuring out layouts and color combinations.

These buyers purchase templates because posting consistently matters for their business. They need 20-30 posts per month and don't have time to design each one from scratch. A template pack they can customize in 5 minutes per post saves them hours every week.

What sells

Instagram post templates. Square (1080x1080) or portrait (1080x1350) designs. Quote templates, promotional templates, testimonial layouts, tip carousels. Usually sold in packs of 10-30. Price: $12-25 for a pack.Instagram story templates. 1080x1920 vertical designs. Polls, Q&A layouts, "this or that," promotional stories. Price: $8-15 for 10-20 templates.Pinterest pin templates. 1000x1500 vertical designs. Blog post promotion pins, product pins, quote pins. Pinterest users are hungry for fresh pin designs. Price: $10-20 for 20-30 templates.LinkedIn carousel templates. Multi-slide square designs for LinkedIn's carousel feature. Growing demand from coaches, consultants, and B2B professionals. Price: $10-18 for 10-15 carousels.Complete social media kits. Instagram posts + stories + highlights + Pinterest pins all in matching style. Premium pricing: $25-45.

The niche advantage

"Social media templates" is broad. "Social media templates for real estate agents" is specific. The specific version: - Faces less competition on Etsy - Commands a higher price (business-specific tools feel more valuable) - Converts better (the buyer sees themselves in the product) - Gets better reviews ("perfect for my real estate business!")

Niches that work well: real estate, fitness/gym, restaurants, hair salons, coaches/consultants, photographers, wedding vendors, therapists/counselors, pet businesses.

Each niche has specific content needs. A real estate agent needs "just listed" and "open house" templates. A fitness trainer needs "workout of the day" and "transformation" templates. Design for the specific use case.

Canva templates vs other formats

Most social media template buyers want Canva format. It's free, runs in a browser, and is easy to edit. Delivering via Canva template link (requires Canva Pro) is the standard. Our [Canva template selling guide](/blog/how-to-sell-canva-templates-on-etsy) covers the delivery process.

Some buyers want Photoshop (PSD) or Illustrator (AI) files. These are a smaller market but often willing to pay more because they're professional designers buying time-savers.

Offering both Canva and PSD formats in one listing widens your buyer pool without much extra work. Design in Canva or Illustrator, export to both formats.

Pricing strategy

Individual templates don't sell well in this category. Nobody buys one Instagram post template. They buy packs.

  • Small pack (10 templates): $8-12
  • Medium pack (20-30 templates): $15-22
  • Large pack (50+ templates): $25-35
  • Complete kit (posts + stories + highlights): $30-45

My sweet spot is 20-template packs at $18. Enough variety for the buyer to use for 2-3 weeks of content. High enough price to keep good margins after [Etsy fees](/blog/etsy-fees-explained-what-you-actually-keep).

On Gumroad, I price the same packs at $22. Gumroad buyers arrive from my content and are less price-sensitive. The [fee difference](/blog/gumroad-fees-complete-breakdown) is small but the pricing flexibility is real.

Creating social media templates efficiently

Once you establish a visual style (colors, fonts, layout grid), you can create templates fast. My process:

1. Design 3-4 base layouts in Canva (quote, promotional, testimonial, tip) 2. Create 5-6 color/font variations of each layout 3. That's 20-24 templates from 4 base designs 4. Package as a single listing 5. Total time: 2-3 hours

The key is consistency. All templates in a pack should look like they belong together. Same font family, same color palette, same layout grid. Buyers want a cohesive brand look, not 20 random designs.
