How to Sell Resume Templates on Etsy and Canva
Resume templates are an evergreen product with year-round demand. Here's what formats sell, how to price them, and which platforms work best.
Why resume templates are a steady seller
People search for new jobs year-round. Unlike seasonal products, resume templates have consistent demand every month. The market isn't as flashy as wedding invitations or as trendy as social media templates, but it's reliable.
Resume templates also have a unique advantage: every buyer needs customization. They can't use a generic resume. They need to input their own experience, skills, and education. This means editable templates (Canva, Word, Google Docs) sell much better than static PDFs.
What formats to offer
The resume template market expects multiple format options. Offer as many as you can:
Canva template: Most popular format now. Buyer clicks a link, edits in Canva, downloads their finished resume. Works on any device. Our [Canva template guide](/blog/how-to-sell-canva-templates-on-etsy) covers the delivery method.Microsoft Word (.docx): Still in demand, especially from corporate job seekers. Many companies' applicant tracking systems (ATS) prefer Word format.Google Docs: Free alternative to Word. Growing in popularity. Some buyers specifically search for "Google Docs resume template."Apple Pages: Smaller market but less competition. Mac users appreciate having this option.Offering all four formats in one listing increases your value proposition and catches buyers who search for specific formats.
Pricing resume templates
- Single resume template (1 design, multiple formats): $7-12
- Resume + cover letter bundle: $12-18
- Complete job search kit (resume + cover letter + references + LinkedIn banner): $20-30
- Professional resume bundle (3-5 different designs): $18-25
The bundle with cover letter is my recommended starting point. It's the best price-to-value ratio and most buyers need both documents.
Niche targeting works here too
Generic "modern resume template" faces massive competition. Niche down:
- "Resume template for nurses"
- "Creative resume for graphic designers"
- "ATS-friendly resume template" (huge search term: many companies use automated screening)
- "Resume template for college students"
- "Executive resume template"
- "Teacher resume and cover letter"
Each niche has different design expectations. A nurse's resume needs clean, professional formatting. A graphic designer's resume can be more creative. An ATS-friendly resume needs simple formatting with no columns or graphics.
The ATS compatibility angle
ATS (Applicant Tracking System) compatibility is a major selling point. Many companies use software to screen resumes before a human sees them. Resumes with complex formatting (multiple columns, text boxes, graphics) get rejected by ATS software.
If your template is ATS-compatible (single column, standard fonts, no text boxes, simple formatting), say so prominently in your title, description, and tags. "ATS-friendly resume template" is one of the highest-intent search terms in this niche.
Listing tips specific to resumes
Show the resume filled with realistic content. Don't show a blank template. Fill it with a realistic (fictional) person's experience. Buyers want to see what their resume will look like with real content.Show the design in different contexts. Mockup on a desk, printed on paper, on a laptop screen, as a mobile view. Buyers want to know it looks good everywhere.Include instructions for each format. Canva editing instructions, Word formatting tips, how to export as PDF for job applications. A clean instruction guide reduces support messages. For the full Etsy listing process, see [how to sell digital downloads](/blog/how-to-sell-digital-downloads-on-etsy).
