Etsy Shop Name Ideas for Digital Product Sellers

Your shop name doesn't matter as much as you think. But picking a bad one can hurt. Here's how to choose one that works.

The truth about shop names

Your Etsy shop name has almost zero impact on your sales. Buyers find your products through Etsy search. They click on individual listings. Most of them never look at your shop name.

I've seen shops called "SarahsPrintables123" making $5,000/month and shops called "The Curated Template Studio" making $50/month. The name didn't determine the outcome. The products, photos, and SEO did.

That said, a terrible name can hurt trust. "xXdarkl0rd420Xx" selling baby shower invitations creates a disconnect. Pick something reasonable and move on. Don't spend 3 days on this.

Naming approaches that work

Your name + product category. "SarahDesigns" or "EmmaTemplates" or "JakePrintables." Simple. Personal. Works fine. Most successful Etsy shops use some variation of this.Descriptive names. "PrintableBliss" or "TemplateCraft" or "DigitalPlannerCo." Tells the buyer what you sell at a glance. Good for search if someone types your shop name directly (rare but it happens).Abstract/brand names. "Lumina Studio" or "Evergreen Prints" or "Sunday Paper Co." Sounds professional. Doesn't describe what you sell but creates a brand feeling. Works well if you plan to build beyond Etsy eventually.

Names to avoid

Names with numbers or random characters. "Templates4U2Buy" or "DesignShop_2024." Looks spammy. Hurts trust.Names that are too niche. "EtsyWeddingInvitationsOnly" locks you into one product category. When you want to sell planners or resume templates, the name doesn't fit.Names that are too long. Etsy allows up to 20 characters. Shorter is better. "TheOrganizedLifeDigitalPlanner" is a mouthful. "NeatPlans" works.Trademarked names. Don't include "Etsy," "Canva," "Pinterest," or any brand name in your shop name. It can get your shop flagged.Names that are hard to spell. If someone hears your shop name, can they type it correctly? "Aesthteique" is going to be misspelled every time.

How to check availability

1. Go to etsy.com/your-shop-name-here and see if it's taken 2. Search Google for the name to make sure it's not a registered business 3. Check if the matching Instagram handle and domain are available (for future brand building)

If your first choice is taken, add a word: "Studio," "Co," "Shop," "Prints," "Design." "EmmaDesigns" taken? Try "EmmaDesignsCo" or "EmmaDesignStudio."

Can you change it later?

Yes. Etsy lets you change your shop name once. After that, you need to contact support. But changing names after you've built reviews and recognition is disruptive. Pick something you can live with long-term.

My actual advice

Spend 15 minutes on this, not 3 days. Pick a name that: 1. Doesn't look spammy 2. Is easy to spell 3. Isn't too niche (allows you to expand product types) 4. You don't hate

Then go create products. Your shop name is maybe 1% of your success on Etsy. Your product quality, photos, and SEO are the other 99%.
